Cali, a two-year-old Alapaha bulldog, gave birth to 20 puppies.
On Wednesday evening, March 18, the adorable new mom was predicted to bear only six puppies. However, Cali has managed to deliver 20 cute little pups during her 24-hour labor.
Cali’s 20-year-old owner, Amber, said it was chaotic and crazy at the same time, but also a fun experience. She added that seeing the pooches together was very heartwarming.
She said that those puppies test her patience sometimes.
According to Amber, the veterinarian told them to expect six or eight puppies.
She said that Cali looks like gasping a bit and she was staring at her when Cali started to push.
Amber was shocked but happy when the puppies kept on coming. She said that it didn’t look like Cali was slowing down.
After the first 12 puppies, Cali calmed down, and they took her to the vet.
According to Amber, Cali was given an injection to help her with her contractions and also to help Cali to deliver the last six puppies out.
She said that it was a traumatic birth, and luckily the other puppies came out healthy.
Unfortunately, despite their efforts, nine of the pooches died. The other 11 are well and alive.
Amber explained that After Cali’s difficult birth, she is lucky to have 11 puppies survived.
The little puppies don’t have names yet other than the last surviving dog, which is called Bambi.
Amber thought about naming them with Disney princesses but she said that, after calling one pup Ariel, she decided that it didn’t suit her.
Amber added that the new owner who buys them could rename them.
The adorable newborn puppies are for sale. The puppies will be sold to their destined homes once they are old enough.
