Senior dogs at shelters are well-cared for. However, they deserve better, and nothing short of forever homes can provide such security. Luckily, despite the number of years they spend waiting, some eventually get their happy ever afters.
An example is Sandi, who spent half of his life in a shelter. He is now 12 years old and has been with the Humane Society of Marion-Grant County for exactly 2,461 days. When she was finally adopted, she had the most fabulous send-off party.
Sandi is a sweet and energetic dog, but for no apparent reason, she has been overlooked by potential adopters for six years. She was well-loved in the shelter, though, and since she has been at the rescue longer than most of the volunteers, she is usually treated as the boss. Still, she would have been better having her own forever home.
Her fate changed when a couple whose dog just died came to the shelter to look for another canine to rescue. Carrie and Erin Rhodes fell in love with Sandi and, soon after, officially adopted the senior dog. It might be later than usual, but her new parents made up for it by giving her the best “walk to forever home” moment.
It looked like Sandi has been fetched for a royal commission as she wore a crown and walked on a red carpet on her way to the car. She kept wagging her tail as everyone sent her off with joyful cheers. After so many hugs and kisses from the shelter’s staff, Sandi went home with her new parents on a comfy doggy bed at the back of a car.
Sandi is now living the life of a doggy queen with her parents spoiling her with so much love. She now has an Instagram account where you can follow her glamorous life. Meanwhile, there are still hundreds of dogs and cats waiting at the shelter in Marion-Grant County for their own forever homes. If you want to help someone like Sandi, please visit the shelter and spread the love!
