Dongpirang is a small village and a tourist spot on the southern coast of South Korea. It is known for its beautiful murals, and hundreds of people visit the place to see its glamour. But within the alluring walls of the neighborhood hides a hideous sight that no one wants to see.
Underneath the parked cars on the streets is a sick dog that tries so hard to be invisible. He fears people so much that he stays away from them all the time. He keeps his distance in the hopes that they don’t bother him in return.
The dog, according to the villagers, didn’t belong to any of them. He popped out of nowhere about a year ago and never left the place. He was rancid, almost bald, and the remaining fur on his raw skin was covered with filth and was completely matted. He also limped when he walked.
He didn’t look that way before. In fact, he was alluring. But because he had been out on the streets for quite a while, he started to get sick, and in no time ended up being the only unpleasant view in the entire village.
Some tourists showed pity for the dog but most people felt horrified looking at him. They called him ugly, awful, and gross. They loathed him because of his looks, and not one of them thought of bringing him to the vet.
Thankfully, members of a local animal welfare group learned about the dog. They had a tough time rescuing him but they managed to catch him in the end. And from the streets, they took him straight to the hospital for much-needed medical care.
The dog, now Dongpirang, suffered from chronic anemia due to starvation, but he was surprisingly heartworm-free. He had a fractured bone on the leg, which caused him the most pain. He is expected to recover, but it will take several months before he completely heals.
Dongpirang is now under the care of his rescue friends. His skin is much better, and his pain is under control. In no time, he will be ready to start fresh and he couldn’t wait for that day to come.
