Randy Grimm is a Washington resident who is a huge advocate of animal rights. In 1998, he founded a nonprofit organization called Stray Rescue of St. Louis. For the next 20 years, his group has grown to more than sixty dedicated staff members and well over a thousand volunteers.
What sets this rescue group apart is that they actively look for animals that most other organizations refuse to help. And more importantly, they have people that are willing to do almost anything to protect and save animal lives. Sometimes, they even put their own well-being on the line.
Falling down
Randy received a report one day from a concerned citizen about puppies living alone in an old and dilapidated house in Washington Park, St. Louis. The caller said that for the past several days, he would hear high-pitched crying whenever he walked past the abandoned structure. The rescue group sent a team of seasoned rescuers to investigate the report.
The team was expecting to see a run-down house, but they did not expect it to be crumbling already. It would be dangerous to venture inside as the roof was falling and the supports were visibly fragile. One wrong move and the ceiling or the walls could fall on them. They were not even sure if the floor could handle their weight.
Nevertheless, the brave rescuers decided to go in after talking things over. It was freezing cold in the area and the pups may not survive the extreme weather.
Stuck in a pipe
Slowly, the rescue team made their way into the house, following the sound made by the crying puppies. After a short while, they found two of them hiding in the walls and floorboards. The third one was found stuck inside a small pipe.
The rescuers looked around the area to see if the litter’s mom was around, but they couldn’t find her after a thorough search. It was likely that she abandoned her puppies.
The three small pups were then brought to their facility, where they were fed, cleaned, and given treatments. In just several weeks, they all found their forever homes.
