The global pandemic has affected and impacted our lives in so many ways. From traveling to another country, going to the park, or just simply going to the market to buy groceries – our trips to anywhere near or far from home are very limited.
A report of over 200,000 coronavirus cases in Colombia has forced the government to place the country under strict lockdown. Among the restrictions are the limited times that the public can go out for groceries.
It’s understandable that some people can’t help but feel a little bit jealous towards the customers of a marketplace in Medellin’s Tulipanes neighborhood. Thankfully, dogs have played a lot of important roles in our lives, one of which is grocery shopping during this pandemic.
Eros, a chocolate-colored Labrador, is a special delivery dog that helps customers get their daily needs and other necessities from the market.
Every day, the 8-year-old dog runs up and down the stairs. He runs down the steps of the hilly neighborhood with baskets filled with various things such as packaged foods, fruits, and vegetables for the customers of their local mini-market.
Just like any good dog who has done his part, he receives treats in exchange for his services.
Although Eros can’t pinpoint the customer’s delivery addresses, he uses his sharp mind to remember the customers’ faces and names. Eros started to learn the customers’ names when he began to join Maria Natividad Botero and her family on their deliveries, four years ago,
According to Botero, Eros’ owner, the delivery dog knows at least five or six customers by name. Botero explains that the customers pay for the store’s service through a bank transfer only after the store sends the requested items with the receipt placed in the basket.
However, Botero added that just because the items are being delivered by Eros, doesn’t mean that the people can easily skip the tips. Eros, like any hardworking dog, refuses to leave the house unless you give him his tip, or in his case, dog treats.
