I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of the saying, “fighting like cats and dogs”. It basically came up because of the two furry animals’ personalities and traits that make them clash. But some cats and dogs have proven that this isn’t the case always.
Here’s a story about a canine who became happy and bubbly when he met a cat. And that cat turned out to become his best friend.
Chapo, the dog, was chained up for four years in his previous owner’s yard. It became a traumatizing experience for him. As Claudia, Chapo’s foster parent, shares, he was overwhelmed in her house. He would always stand near the door as if he wanted to head out and leave instead of staying in.
Chapo didn’t get the proper food and shelter for years, as well as the love and care of his previous owner. This made his new foster mom eager to make sure he has a cozy place to sleep in and has enough water and food on his bowl all the time.
But no matter how patient Claudia was with Chapo, it seems that his dark past still haunted him from time to time. He occasionally got anxiety attacks while sleeping. Whenever that happens, Claudia would get a blanket and lie down with him.
Slowly but surely, Chapo found his new safe space and started to let his guard down. And he happens to have found that safe space with Freeway, Claudia’s adorable cat.
Today, he often plays with Freeway, and they are now inseparable. As they became best buddies, Chapo became one happy, gentle, and very playful dog. As he found the much-needed comfort with Freeway, the barriers between Chapo and the outside world started to break down. He even plays with Claudia’s 2-year-old niece outside!
This story just shows how a friend’s genuine love, whether a human or animal, can help heal someone’s shattered heart. What an inspiring story, isn’t it?
