A service dog named Abby stole the spotlight during one of Louisiana’s football games. But her owners, Denise and Wade Ramey, didn’t know that until they opened their phones and saw how many people were messaging and reaching out to them. They were definitely amazed at the attention because for them, it was just a normal day of watching football which Abby most definitely loved.
The couple first got Abby years ago after they saw her in an advertisement in The Courier-Journal Saturday edition. At the time, they just lost their English lab and they wanted to have a companion in the house especially for Wade who had suffered life-threatening injuries a couple of years ago. They figured that she would be able to help Wade feel more independent. And so, the very next day, they decided that they would purchase Abby.
And she was the most life-changing purchase they have ever made.
Although Abby has not yet been qualified as a service dog before they bought her, the couple was lucky that she was a natural at the job. Not any dog can be a service dog as it requires a certain temperament. And so for a year, Abby worked on being a service dog through Duffy’s Dog Training Center in Jefferson, Indiana. Denise would drive Abby there twice a week.
After some time, she finally graduated and she was just the best service dog ever. She is great on long drives and she helps Wade a lot especially as he walks. Wade uses Abby to stabilize himself, go up and down the stairs, and she can brace him if ever he needs help standing up. And she is the very reason that the couple could enjoy their retirement and watch all the football games they want.
Abby has definitely been an absolute blessing for them and they wouldn’t have it any other way.
