The Bottle Brigade is a non-profit group that helps with the relocation and rehoming of dogs with special needs.
One day, a breeder contacted the shelter about a puppy named Etta and then relinquished ownership to them. The volunteers of the organization, upon learning about the puppy with undeveloped paws, knew that they had to help her.
Etta was just a few days old when this happened. She was extremely underweight and visibly ill. The workers at the animal shelter took Etta to the veterinarian, where they discovered that she was septic and had infections.
When Kathryn, a veterinary technician, learned of Etta’s illness, she insisted on fostering her and assisting in her recovery. Kathryn understood that Etta faced a long road to recovery, but she was determined to do everything she could. Kathryn expected Etta to struggle with daily tasks, but Etta shocked her foster mother by displaying courage and a resolve to overcome her obstacles.
Kathryn spent several days with Etta before adopting her. She did that so that they could both be familiar with each other and make the adjustment period a lot easier for both of them.
When Etta reached adolescence, Kathryn fitted her with personalized prosthetics to make her more comfortable. With a lot of love and care, Etta grew into a large, 80-pound Great Dane that enjoyed frolicking in the yard.
Kathryn’s decision to foster more dogs with unique needs was influenced by Etta’s cheerful attitude. Etta adored the puppies that Kathryn brought into her home to care for. She instantly assumed the position of big sister for the foster puppies, which helped a lot in their recovery.
Etta would spend her days supervising the rescued puppies in the nursery. She delighted in observing the small canines enter their playful phase and would even share with them her own toys. Good job, Etta!
