An AT&T technician by the name of David Baxter was on his first job of the day when he discovered something unfortunate and sad in one of the enclosures of the company. He was doing his daily routine when he noticed something nearby, a dog with its hind legs bound to each other. He went to go for a closer look, but the dog tried to move away from him.
David knew that the dog has just undergone a very traumatic experience, so he had to be patient with it. He first offered it water, slowly coaxing the dog to drink. Eventually, the dog did, and he earned its trust. He also gave his lunch to the dog, a ham and turkey sandwich. The malnourished dog was starving, she was probably there for quite some time.
David also noticed that there was a blanket nearby, tied on its edges to make a cover. The dog’s front legs also had marks of being tied together. The abused pooch freed herself from the blanket and chewed on the twine that tied its front legs. David then cut the string holding her hind legs, which by that time was already biting into its skin. He then called animal control, who took the dog in.
A new lease in life
The dog was then transferred by animal control to a rescue group called Marley’s Mutts. There she was given a new name, Dora. As she was malnourished and had lots of medical issues, Dora was not a good candidate right away for adoption. She had to stay with the shelter until she is returned to good health.
It only took a couple of months of under, loving care for Dora to become healthier. Her transformation was amazing. The rescue group decided to call David and arranged a reunion. Their story was featured in the At&T company newsletter, where Kevin Smith, a senior technology project manager in the area, read the article and decided to adopt Dora. Now the dog lives with a new family, which includes another rescue dog named Dante.
